The Monthly A.C.E., And The Association of Clandestine Enthusiasts (1982-2005)

The ACE was the monthly bulletin of the Association of Clandestine Enthusiasts, a shortwave radio club dedicated to listening to pirate radio stations, clandestine radio stations and spy number stations. It was founded in 1982 by Darren Leno of Moorhead, Minnesota, and became the primary source of information on pirate radio in North America. A.C.E. was a member of the Association of North American Radio Clubs (A.N.A.R.C.) for many years. Membership peaked in the 1990s.

With the advent of the internet and its growth, pirate radio and clandestine enthusiasts gradually migrated to online forums like FRC for the posting of loggings and the instant access of timely pirate radio information, and participation in the ACE gradually declined. It ceased publication in late 2005.

(The Free Radio Weekly, a weekly Email newsletter of pirate radio station loggings, is the most natural successor to the printed monthly ACE, that is still in publication.)

Free Radio Cafe maintains an archive of many years issues of the Monthly ACE in the "Members Only" Download Libary at the bottom of the FRC Pirate Radio Forums. You must be logged in to view the Download Library.
