Re: Unknown contact

That was the time that Liquid Radio was supposed to be running on that frequency.
I couldn't hear anything because of local interference. They use a low-power AM transmitter.

Re: stock valiant OK to run?

Sure, it can be done that way. Back in the old days we never worried about processing (or even knew much about it, for that matter). Processing the audio for shortwave will improve the efficiency and maybe readability of the transmitted signal, but isn't critical. In more recent times, I used Winamp...

Re: Introduction

The R-75 does have one glaring mechanical weakness often complained about, and that is the connection from the power transformer cord to the radio's board inside tends to break loose. Mine tends to short if moved at all. If you get one, I would strongly suggest being very gentle on the connection, a...

Re: Introduction

Welcome, Voum! Glad to have you here! I myself own an ICOM R-75 receiver, my first "serious" receiver (something costing more than $200). I am VERY happy with it, especially the DSP noise reduction that helps pull weaker stations out of the noise. Also, the R-75 was the first receiver that made SSB ...

Find Unused FM channels in your area (US)

Just pop in your city or zip code, click "Go", and it spits out a list of "unused" FM frequencies in your area... (Of course you'll want to monitor these with a good receiver to see how open they really are, before starting up a transmitter.) http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/vacant" onclick="win...

Re: Chances of getting caught pirateing

There's no way to process audio twice through the same pc sound card and keep the streams separate from each other. You'd need two sound cards, and a computer that could read both simultaneously and separate from each other, and I don't know if any such exist. So no, I don't think there's a way to d...

Re: Chances of getting caught pirateing

Nowadays, the FCC's standard operating procedure the first time they catch up with you, is to issue a warning, sort of "cease and desist" notice called a "Notice of Unlicensed Operation" telling you to get off the air and stay off, that you need a license, blah blah blah. They'll also send you a bun...
