Covering free radio activity from September 23-29, 2017

The Free Radio Weekly (FRW) is an internet newsletter devoted to the
hobby of listening to free radio "pirate" broadcasters in the
shortwave radio bands. The FRW is produced by the free radio community
and distributed to those who contribute.

The weekly deadline is Saturdays at 0000 UTC (Friday night in North
America). Please send your logs to all the editors, as our editing
schedule is subject to last minute changes. Thank you for your inputs!

Haven`t logged any pirates for a couple weeks, except YHWH 7470 (and
not him either UT Sept 23), perhaps because I haven`t been tuning much
in prime pirate time of 23-01 UT on 43m, but also poor conditions,
lots of noise.

Sept 23 at 0022 I have a weak AM carrier on 6965, identified by these
as Doctor Detroit:

And also a JBA carrier on 6925, Sept 23 at 0022, Pee Wee per these:

including a CW ID at 0022 which I couldn`t hear. I guess they mean
Morse code on MCW, altho part of the logs were in USB; on 6924.7

Network 51. Sunday, September 24, 2017, 1638, 6925 usb. Music by UB40,
"Red Red Wine." ID, "Network 51 a pirate radio station" with various
sound bytes at 1637. 1648, IDs, "...with your host, dave the cat" and
contact address network 51 pirate radio at gmail dot com, and off.
Very good audio, fair to good signal, s7. (Will-MD)

** Pee Wee Radio

PEE WEE RADIO: 6925/U, 0201-0226+, 9/24; 60s-70s rock tunes; W ID
@0210+, 0214+ & 0221+, “Pee Wee Radio on SW”, “Pee Wee” tough to get

air." into nonstop progressive rock music. Fine sound and signal, s9.

Unid. Saturday, September 23, 2017, 2314, 6925 am. Mellow pop music
with big wide AM signal. Fair signal, s5/s7, bothered by fishermen
conversations on the sidebands. (Will-MD)

Unid. Sunday, September 24, 2017, 2130, 6925 usb. Talk about music,
Phil Collins and Genesis, extended dialog and some sounds. A movie
soundtrack, perhaps? Muffled lo-fi audio, very good signal, s9.

Unid. Sunday, September 24, 2017, 2143, 6880 usb. Music by Hendrix,
"The Wind Cries Mary," a dance/trance song, ID hard to understand,
included "time to go to the beach and smoke some pot", into Sublime
"Smoke Two Joints." Good signal and sound, s7/s9. (Will-MD)

Unid. Sunday, September 24, 2017, 2215, 6880 usb. Sounds like the same
station that was on from 2150 to 2203, with The Doors "People Are
Strange." Good signal, s7. (Will-MD)

6880-AM, Sept 25 at 2355, music at S9+5; no pirates above 6.9 but no
time to keep with it, just before `Vietnam War` episode 6 on PBS. It
was unID for all these reporters too:

Unid. Tuesday, September 26, 2017, 0017, 6880 usb. Music by the
Beatles, "You Can't Do That," 0018 Aaron Lewis, "Country Boy." Very
good signal and sound, s7/s9 peaks. Off at 0023. (Will-MD)

Unid. Friday, September 29, 2017, 1716, 6880 am. Music by The Go-Go's,
"We Got the Beat" followed by Steve Winwood "Roll With It." 1723,
"Take On Me" by a-ha. Still on at 1839 with "Kiss" by Prince. 1903,
Terence Trent D'arby "Wishing Well." Still on at 2048 with "Michael
Row the Boat Ashore" and Elvis Presley "I Can't Help Falling In Love
With You." At 2117 in the middle of "Our Day Will come" another
station came up on 6880 usb, completely obliterating the AM station.
s7, variable signal with good sound. (Will-MD)

Unid. Friday, September 29, 2017, 2117, 6880 usb. Mellow rock music,
co-channel with another station on 6880 am. s7 for both signals. Both
stations dropped carrier at 2121; the AM station first and the USB one
a few seconds later. The AM station was back at 2123 for a few
seconds, then off again. Talk about China Radio Radio International at
2124. The USB station started again at 2126. At 2131 the DX talk on
the AM station ended, and the USB station is now in the clear with
dance/trance music. (Will-MD)

Unid. Friday, September 29, 2017, 2142, 6940 usb. Dance/trance music.
2145, "Big Balls" by AC/DC. Good signal, s7 peaks. (Will-MD)

6880/U, 2127-2140:40*, 9/22; Pop music; off abruptly during Doors
tune. SIO=252 barely above QRN (Frodge-MI)

6955/U, 0135-0201+, 9/24; Disco era tunes; off about a semiminute
between tunes; no ID. SIO=2+53- fady (Frodge-MI)

6925/U, 2123-2132+, 9/24; Drama w/voices, screaming & spooky music.
Uncopiable at QRN lvl (Frodge-MI)

6880/U, 2215-2220:27*, 9/24; Tune=in to Doors’ People are Strange, the
a instr’l, then a weird rap by duck-sounding W & off w/o ID. SIO=2+53
(Frodge-MI)

UNID: 6940/U, 2145-2148:15*, 9/29; Odd pop tune & off w/o ID.
