The Free Radio Weekly (FRW) is an internet newsletter devoted to the

shortwave radio bands. The FRW is produced by the free radio community
and distributed to those who contribute.

The weekly deadline is Saturdays at 0000 UTC (Friday night in North
America). Please send your logs to all the editors, as our editing

** Shortwave (film)

Josh and Isabel Harris, after suffering the loss of their only child,
relocate to a secluded hillside research facility with the hopes of
repairing their broken family. After years of trying, Josh and his
research partner, Thomas, have a breakthrough involving a cryptic
shortwave radio signal and its universal origins. Something within the
signal resonates with Isabel and she begins experiencing seeming
hallucinations and visions of distant memories. Upon further
investigation into the phenomenon, the scientists fear for Isabel’s
health while Isabel fears the signal has attracted something sinister
to their new home.

[Sort of reminds me of the experience of hearing KIPM for the first time. --Lw]

** Clever Name Radio

6935-USB, Oct 25 at 2130 & 2142, pirate music at S6-S8. This thread
says it`s Clever Name Radio again, 2107-2154* ... 229.0.html
Except for someone in Denver, all the other reporters are east of me

6940-USB, Oct 26 at 2309, pirate music, novelty song, S9+10, maybe
Pink Floyd; recheck at 2320 I hear a couple notes and off. ACI soon
leads to similar, maybe same station shifted to:

6935-USB, Oct 26 at 2321, more music; 2336, Synthyl announcements
repeated, ``Good evening and welcome to Clever Name Radio [unreadable,
something about ``recording device``], ``
After another tune, 2341 same ID again played about 11 times, the last
half at sped-up pace, 2343 music.

These logs of 6935 were from as early as 2042 led from unID to Clever
Name Radio, and someone in UK said at 2303-2316 it tried 6940 before
going back to 6935. ... 259.0.html
And more jumping back and forth: ... 263.0.html

Clever Name Radio: 6935/U, 2227-2236+, 10/27; Pop music including Long
Cool Woman in a Black Dress by the Hollies. RoboW ID at 2233+, SIO=353 (Frodge-MI)

** Clever Name Radio/Cool AM Radio relay

6935-USB, Oct 23 at 2205, pirate music with very repetitive beat,
almost disco; 2210 announcement over music, unseems ID. Still going
past 2220 at S7-S9. Earlier than I usually patrol the band, but good
thing I did since no pirates were logged in later hours by anyone this
date, than Cool AM [sic] on 6935-USB per: ... 173.0.html
Gone by my next check at 2353 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Chris Smolinski replies: ``99 44/100% sure this was Clever Name Radio.
He is usually in 6940 USB or 6935 USB when 6940 is occupied with a
ute. He's been fairly prolific recently, and often plays long
stretches of music without IDs``

Altho subjected as Cool AM, one of the HFU posts said it was Cool AM
being *relayed* by Clever Name; including IDs for Cool AM. how
confusing (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** Pee Wee Radio/KIPM Relay

6950-LSB, Oct 20 at 2336, some kind of dramatic speech with continuous
music bed, little change in pitch, but making it hard to tune
accurately; movie soundtrack? These logs are headed KIPM, but SSTV
later IDed it as Pee Wee. ... 115.0.html

Brian D in NY logged what I was hearing as ``KIPM Relay 6950 LSB S5 in
NY, 2332: Alan Maxwell announcing "9 Audio Signals From Outer Space"
episode`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** Radio Retén lo que Tienes

1710 kHz, Oct 22 at 1205 UT, JBA talk, 1207 UT music, vs storm noise
level from LA/TX, no doubt still Radio Retén lo que Tienes, Bâton
Rouge pirate, as heard much better Oct 20. JBA carrier still audible
at 1304 UT.

This thing is obviously more than a 10-watt talking house transmitter
as it gets out to at least 910 km/565 miles to Enid; or 856/532 to
Terry Krueger in Clearwater FL; thus I am surprised that since
publicized on World of Radio 1900, and in DXLD yg, and my own previous
log, I have seen NO other reports of it, at least in the ABDX, IRCA
and NRC lists (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1901, DX LISTENING

1710.024, LOUISIANA, (PIRATE), Radio Retén lo que Tienes, Bâton Rouge.
0915 October 21, 2017. Nearly local level with primitive Spanish live
(presumably pre-recorded) gospel chanting inside the church with lots
of room echo, Spanish preacher briefly from 0939, back to singing.
Parallel station website stream. Weak het when tossed into LSB, coming
from just below 1710.00, maybe the possibly affiliated NY-area pirata
(Terry Krueger, All times/dates GMT, Clearwater FL, IC-R75, NRD-535,
short longwires, active loop, WORLD OF RADIO 1901, DX LISTENING

1710.02, Oct 24 at 0614 UT, Spanish preaching, presumed Radio Retén lo
que Tienes, Bâton Rouge, Louisiane pirate. So far only other DXer of
this known is Terry Krueger in Florida who put it on ``1710.024, at
0915 GMT October 21, 2017 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1901, DX

The way that Radio Retén lo que Tienes's schedule is written, that's 7
am to midnight, not 7 to noon. (Also, that is one mouthful of a name!)
One of the Baton Rouge guys has heard the FM before and actually asked
for an ID of it. ... n-03-21-17
That AM, though, is getting out thanks to its funky frequency! (Raymie
Humbert, Phœnix AZ, Oct 21, WTFDA Forum via DXLD)

1710, Oct 26 around 0630, JBA carrier; but at 1104, usual screaming
preacher and crowd response from Radio Retén lo que Tienes, Bâton
Rouge LA pirate (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** Wolverine Radio

Wolverine Radio, 6950usb, 10-22-17, 0023-0112utc, fair sig with low
noise, good audio, nice variety of tunes with the word "nobody" in
them, SSTV/FAX at 0039 of empty stadium seats as seen on HF
Underground, more tunes but with the word "everybody" in them,
SSTV/FAX of picture of large crowd at 0010utc, off at 0012.

** Yeah Man Radio

Friday, October 27, 2017, 2215, 6925.6 am. Yeah Man Radio with old
school jazz music. Fair to good signal, noisy conditions, s5/s7.
