Larry Will: After several months of activity, the Frederick MD

pirate broadcaster on 90.3 FM was off the air when checked on

December 30. This station featured a mix of mid to late 1960s pop/

rock music with full quieting between songs & no ID or other con-

tent. The station was active for at least several months; I first

identified it in mid-2017 with a fair to good signal centered

around the intersection of Interstates 270 and 70 and US 340 and

15 south of Frederick proper. (Will-MD)

=+=+=+=+= North American Stations/Relays =+=+=+=+=

1/5, 0137-0203*, 6940/U; Music by CS&N, the Beatles, Grand Funk

RR, Petula Clark, et al. Numerous IDs throughout. Fair to

occasionally good signal with decent audio. Extended ID

~0202 followed by brief transmission by Unidentified Radio.

1/4, 2036-2117, 5010/AM; Great signal and lots of rock music.

(55444, Hunsicker, PA)

12/30, 2115, 6770/AM; Fair but listenable signal with an episode

of "The Lone Ranger." s5. (Will-MD) [Apparently this originates

from a radio museum, somewhere. -- HF]

12/30, 0120-0135, 6950/U; very weak but clear, various Jack Daniels

songs, SSTV/FAX at end of Jack Daniels bottle being held by

scantily clad woman as seen on HF underground. (Hassig-IL)

1/1, 0002-0018*, 6945/U; Music by Yngie Malsteen, The Doors, The

Monkees & others. CW ID in some songs. Fair signal hindered

by high static levels. (Sedlacek-NE) [High Static Levels

would be a good name for a pirate station. Nobody ever used

Radio Shack. -- HF]

1/1, 2109-2156, 6950/U; Rock music, including Lizard Wizard & IDs.

(45454, Hunsicker, PA)

1/1, 2132, 6950/U; pirate with rock, S8-S9 vs local HNL, soon ID as

Radio Free What-ever, only found this after tip about something

on 6925, unfound; says he is pro-Yaesu, picks on Icoms; acknow-

ledges posters on HFU. ``FCC knows where I am, locked & loaded``

2135 music, doze, off @2200*. Many other logs: https://www.,39609.0.html I need to

tune for winterpirates even earlier in afternoon, but I wonder

why none of them ever seem to operate later in the evening

after 01 or 02? (Glenn Hauser, OK)

1/1, 2136-2141+, 6950/U; Pop tunes; “Smoke another cigarette & have

another shot of vodka, this is R-F-W”. SIO-354 (Frodge-MI)

12/30, 2215-2249+, 6930/U; Tune in to punk tunes; “Radio USA, your

political station”; 2219 “A Nazi Xmas” intro’d by George

Zeller in Ohio--“round at both ends & hi in the middle,

O-hi-O”; into series of stirring band music & lotsa marchin’

& drinkin’ tunes + RUSA IDs throughout; 2247 brief cmtry

about “Messiah” Hitler; “We love Hitler”. (They offered no

updates on the situation on the eastern front. Hitler was in

an episode of WKRP.) SIO=3+53 on peaks, fady. Apparently a

bogus RUSA. The real RUSA 1st logged in 1989 & last in 2010.

12/30, 2229, 6930/U; martial music at S4-S6, sounds German; 2233 ID

as ``Radio USA, with a Nazi holiday``, more lofi band music,

maybe authentic from the era, instrumental & some choral;

if Horst Wessel Lied is included, I do not recognize it.

2238 fading, losing to local HNL, but R75 noise blanker helps.

2247 ``Nazi Christmas on Radio USA`` but never heard any

carols. 2252 says something about Ohio, ID again & greeting

to ``the Grand Wizard of the Missouri Ku Klux Klan, sieg

heil!`` & more music; 2254 fading more, longer announcement

mentioning ``500 hours``? Maybe another broadcast time? Brief

rendition of ``Deutschland über Alles`` & off just before

2257*. Then a few seconds of ``running water``, coincidental?

Now I look up what others have reported on HFU: https://www.,39558.0.html

Classified as a parody; one guy IDed most of the music & it

was 500 dollars, not hours, for a T-shirt (Glenn Hauser, OK)

12/31, 0102-0104*, 6955/U; Tuned in to SSTV then Underdog theme &

off. SIO=353 (Frodge-MI)

12/29, 2156-2202:45*, 6940/U; Rock tunes; ID @2201+, “You are lis-

tening to Unidentified Radio”. SIO=2+53, off abruptly.

Apparently came back on several minutes later per Free Radio

Net post. (Frodge-MI)

12/29, 2201-2218, 6940/U; Rock music & long ID's that were repeated.

Some faint peskies. (44343, Hunsicker, PA)

12/29, 2214-2241+, 6940/U; Music by Led Zeppelin, Lenny Kravitz &

others. Weak signal under heavy static. Lost signal @2241

12/29, 2300, 6940/DSB,AM? Heard both on USB & LSB, but LSB weaker.

A reduced carrier? It`s unstable, fluxuating with modulation.

Maybe it`s the electronica music at certain prolonged tones/

pitches which seems to form a carrier. Past 2300 Dec 29 with

no announcements; 2307 hip hop with some vocals. 2320 ID

only once when I am not expecting it, and can`t copy first

word but ``something, Radio`` by synth OM voice. I don`t

think it`s Clever Name Radio this time. Multiple logs here

say it called itself ``Unidentified Radio``. https://www.,39538.0.html

(Glenn Hauser, OK)

12/31, 2121-2127+, 6940/U; Tuned in to Beatles’ tune, then ID into

non-top-40 stuff. SIO=2+53 +++ 2222, 12/31; 60s pop; “You

are listening to Unidentified Radio, a clever name for a

radio station”. SIO=353 (Frodge-MI)

12/31-1/1, 2145-0012+, 6940/U; Extended broadcast. Music by Led

Zeppelin, M.I.A., Jimi Hendrix & many others. Multiple

station IDs. Fair signal but high noise floor. (Sedlacek-NE)

12/31, 2200-2226, 6940/U; hrd via VE6JY's remote Site on the Perseus,

with fair signal, caught an ID as 'You're listening to another

...Unidentified Radio" (given 3x) Very Noisy band conditions,

technico music @2213. (Edward Kusalik-AB)

1/1, 2141-2151+, 6940/U; X-rated rap into hard rock; ID @2149+

SIO=353+ (Frodge-MI)

1/1, 2209-2210, 6940/U; Music & an ID. (45443, Hunsicker, PA)

1/1, 2245-2337+, 6940/U; Songs by Barbra Striesand, Jane's Addiction

& other artists. Show often gone for short time then back on

again throughout broadcast. (Sedlacek-NE)

1/2, 0012-0024*, 6940/U; Rock music & IDs. Doors tunes. Gave email

address at sign-off, but I only got the tail

end. (45343, Hunsicker, PA)

1/5, 0204-0213*, 6940/U; On immediately after Cool AM Radio relay.

Songs by Led Zeppelin & Metallica then gone. (Sedlacek-NE)

1/5, 2232-2252+, 6940/U; Pop, rap, rock & ID. SIO=353+ (Frodge-MI)

1/5, 2252, 6940/U; Synth/trance music, ID, "You're listening to

Unidentified radio which is a clever name for an unknown

radio station" into some rap music. Fair to good signal,

s5. (Will-MD)

1/1, 0336-0354+, 4015/U; 10th anniversary pgm (1st logged in 2007);

Chit-chatty DJ w/pop tunes. ID @0345. S20+! peaks (Frodge-MI)

1/1, 0410-0732, 4015/U; good sig for most of broadcast, marathon

broadcast of nice selection of tunes by various artists from

the 1960's & 1970's, see the post by Skeezix on HFunderground

for complete playlist, several SSTV/FAX during broadcast, was

playing Leon Russel strangers in a strange land when I tuned

in at 0410. (Hassig-IL)

1/1, 0415-0502, 4015/U; Manage to hear via SDR Remote at VE6JY's

antenna with pgm of pop music by Lori, Joe Crocker (The Letter),

Joni Mitchell (Car on the Hill) & Pearl Jam. Hrd many ID's

'WDDR-20 Century Radio" 4/344 (Edward Kusalik-AB)

1/4, 2001-2035, 6925.7/AM; Very weak AM signal only occasionally

usable. (Hunsicker, PA)

12/30, 0122-0135+, 1710/AM; Doors tunes. In/out of the QRN.

Tnx Jtart tip on the Free Radio Net (Frodge-MI)

12/30, 1710, 6945/U; Bits & pieces of Chestnuts roasting on an

open fire... with occasional skips & dropouts. Fair signal

with a het from a nearby utility. (Will-MD)

12/30, 2333, 6924.7/AM; Music by Molly Hatchett, Flirtin' With

Disaster. Fair signal, s9. (Will-MD)

1/3, 2229-2235:28*, 6940/U; Pop/rock including Breaking the Law.

Off w/o ID or anmt. off/on, SIO=2+53+ (Frodge-MI)

1/5, 2123-2126+, 6925.8-.9/U; Very distorted & drifting downfreq.

2229 back or still there; seems a tad less distorted, but

still near impossible copy. (Frodge-MI)

=+=+=+=+= Hifer Beacon Stuffe =+=+=+=+=

4069.82/CW, 12/31, 0656; ZN beacon barely audible again, location

unknown but probably USA. The pauses between the letters are

virtually the same to the ear, so could equally be NZ. Pre-

sumed ZN since known as a ``zebra beacon`` (Glenn Hauser, OK)

13560/U, 1730, 12/30; Pipper, 48 pips/min. (Frodge-MI)

13564, 1/3, 1441; after hearing K6FRC beacon about 13565, I detect a

much weaker one 1 kHz below, sending ID as RF & just barely

copiable. The LWCA HIFER list already has it: ``13564.330,

RF, Unknown, EM96, CW (h2017/12)`` that grid would be in WV

or VA; how do they know that much? (Glenn Hauser, OK)

13565, 1/3, 1438; K6FRC HIFER beacon is RST 525, easily readable &

no CODAR. Does that mean when there is CODAR it is propaga-

ting from somewhere other than California? As usual there is

hash circa 13561 from nearby Part 15 medical devices and/or

RF ID equipment. But then I hear another RF next to it

(Glenn Hauser, OK)

Electronic Mail Addresses for Stations:

6973 AM Lupo Radio rec'ed within six hours after the initial e-mail

reply with a e-mail QSL Card (see photo). Also sent the following

info: Transmitter: two 807 valves modulated in low level G2 (screen

grid) excited by a 12BY7 that oscillates to crystal of the funda-

mental frequency 6973 khz (the crystal is from the year 1944 second

war), the yield is 30% for maximum linearity, *25****watt output*,

the modulator is a 6BQ5 in class "A" Antenna: horizontal half wave

dipole at 12 meters high, maximum irradiation from north to south,

coupled to the TX by a T filter. (see the photo) Sent back a reply

thanking Lupo Radio for all this information and QSL Card.

John Sedlacek: Winter greetings! No weather comments this week

other than it's winter; nothing to see here that I haven't seen

all ready.
