Pirate Confesses; Keeps Broadcasting

The FCC is proposing a penalty of $15,000 be levied against Jose Alejandro Aguilar for operating a pirate radio station in Louisville, Kentucky. The Commission warned Mr. Aguilar in person that pirate operations are illegal and he admitted that he operated the radio station without a license. In July of 2013, the Enforcement Bureau identified the station being operated on 99.5-FM with the antenna located on the rooftop of a two-story brick commercial building in Louisville. The owner of the building said the suite was being rented by "Radio Pasion 316." Aguilar appeared and admitted to operating a station without a license. He was told to end his unlawful operation. When the agent left, the station was off the air. But wait, there's more.

Thirteen days later, another agent started an investigation of an unlawful operation at 87.9-FM. Yep. Same commercial building. Same suite number. Aguilar was at it again; he had just moved down the dial. So, Aguilar gets hit with the base forfeiture amount for operation without a license of $10,000 and gets another $5,000 tacked on for continuing his shenanigans after being put on notice.
