Hi Glenn, Dec 5, on 6955-AM, from 0122 to 0219; programming of WABC
(yes, maybe a mixture with something else?); "from our studios on
beautiful Neely Henry Lake" (Alabama), with weather by "meteorolo=
gists James Spann from the ABC 33/40 weather center". My audio -

California, dxldyg via DX LISTENING DIGEST)
RE: "WABC" reception last night. This from Andy Robins:
"WABC 6955 kHz also well heard here in Michigan last night, mostly
at S9 level with some fading. This was clearly a contemporary pro-
duction by someone who has access to studio production tapes of WABC
jingles, etc., from the 60's and 70's." What is interesting is that
the meteorologists James Spann is still at ABC 33/40
http://abc3340.com/weather (Ron Howard, Dec 5, ibid.)
Hi Glenn, Andy Robins has some updated info about the pirate WABC
that we recently heard. He noted a new WABC QSL posted on Facebook
which states:
"WABC AM 1610 & FM 100.1 were a pair of pirate stations run from the
shores of Henry Neely Lake [actually "Neely Henry Lake" - Ron] near
Ashville, AL by Joe Dentici, a retired DJ and broadcast engineer from
WSGN and EWTN among others. Joe lost his battle with leukemia in 2006,
and we lost one of the best there ever was. The show you heard origi-
nally aired November 26, 2005."
Thanks to Andy for this clarification of just what we heard Dec 5 (Ron
Howard, California, Dec 8, ibid.)

87.9 UNID Midland MI, Pop Music Pirate: 12:15 PM, 8-Dec; As I neared
the hot spot, RDS "Lauren" popped up! 1st time I've seen
any RDS, so apparently not just an audio relay. "Lauren"
stayed on thru 3 songs. I tuned away & back & no RDS.
(Lauren Mayberry?...maybe "Lauren" is the perpetrator?) I
checked again at 12:50 PM at the hot spot & no RDS. The
Xmas music pirate was also on shortly before this but noted
off at 1:10 PM. It's not unusual for the latter to go off
after noon for a while & return later. Still no good clues
as to the source for either. (Frodge-MI)

a radio station that plays music the way it ought to be
played, surround sound, Christmas". Their footprint today
is much larger than usual. FM reception is weird. The pop
music pirate was also on. (Frodge-MI)
